Big April '17 GIant Roundup

A quick roundup of this year's Big April, plus some group shots of the painted portion of the collection so far. Too many big minis -- had trouble photographing them, even in batches!

And just for completeness, my ratgiant...

  1. So many giants... maybe I should start having an annual Dragon month so I can start catching up with my own collection? There is rarely a good gaming excuse to paint many dragons.

    1. You should do it! Giants are only marginally better, in terms of painting a large number of them for gaming. But luckily, I found a willing opponent to face my all-giant force at the last Oldhammer USA day. Back when WFB3 was current, I did see someone field an all dragon-rider high elf army once. (He just wanted to experience trying it once.)

    2. Ah, using the old Dragonkin unit I suppose? Well, an early 1980s Elf army is something on my radar...

    3. Yes. We used to have a huge monthly WFB3 game at a semi-local store. They had a 5' x 24' (maybe larger?) table in the basement. Everyone would show up with 3000 point armies and face off on roughly good vs. evil sides.

One Saturday, one of the guys put down something like 8 dragons on the table and said that was his army. :)

I'm not sure how it played. He started on the far flank, and I was about 1/3 of the way down from the opposite end of the battlfield. From what I remember, he did make a 90 degree turn and start flying down the middle of the battle. On the one hand, I was disappointed I didn't get to unload my Skaven jezzails into them. On the other hand, I was relieved because 3rd ed. Skaven psychology. ;)

    1. Thanks. I was surprised at how much I got done this month too! Granted, some of them were a bit simple. But I'm very pleased with what I painted.

  3. Nice batch of Giants. My big April was a bust, but I am getting a few things done. The Ral Partha stuff sounds interesting (sorry, I'm referencing back to older posts, I've been binge reading.) I need to contact you about your Mighty Empires campaign for the next zine, I'll be in touch.

    1. Sure. If you're doing something on Might Empires, contact me far enough in advance and maybe I can arrange some useful files to download.
