Mantic Giant

My Mantic giant arrived today. It's the only thing I got from the KS. I showed great restraint.

A quick dry fit to check the size compared to some of my other giants. I happen to have the Otherworld giant on my desk, still awaiting assembly. I think they will be pretty close in size when assembled, though proportioned somewhat differently (as just about every giant seems to be.)

And another quick check against a couple of the finished giants. I think the Mantic, Otherworld, Warploque, and Ultraforge giants will be of similar size when they're all complete.

I will need to get a new group photo when those two and the Heresy giant are done. But for reference, below are a couple of previous group shots.

Big April '17 GIant Roundup

A quick roundup of this year's Big April, plus some group shots of the painted portion of the collection so far. Too many big minis -- had trouble photographing them, even in batches!

Big'uns

I came across the box in which the two other big giants were packed, so thought I would take a pic with the Black Scorpion giant for comparison. I think if they all stood up straight, they would be pretty similar in height -- though slightly different in proportions.

Putting them together, I also noticed that the Black Scorpion giant, which was not painted be me, fits pretty well with my own painting. :)

I had previously photographed the Ultraforge giants with the classic Marauder giant. So a little review, just to emphasize the ridiculous size of the big'uns.

I think the next step is to simply glue small children's feet to a wooden base and put them on the table as even larger giants.

Final - Two Giants Based

OK, last time I post photos of the same old giants. I finally finished all the little details and based them. DONE!

I still plan on painting up the Warploque giant soon, but I need a little break from the big guys for a little bit. Maybe in another month or so.

End of the Giant Month, More Terrain Materials

Illness, back problems, and other distractions have kept me from even my reduced goal (3 giants instead of 4) for the month. But I'm OK with that. I got motivated enough to paint up some giant-- the skeleton is entirely done, the Marauder giant is completely painted and just needs the base finished, the Ultraforge giant is over halfway done, and the Warploque giant... well, maybe I will get those last two finished in May.

And, as promised, here's a pic with my other, previously painted giants.

I also had requests for better shots of the water terrain. (Unfortunately, this goes the other direction and is a bit too much sunlight.)

Speaking of... I took a little bit of time earlier in the week before the weather got rainy to cut some more terrain. I could't find any hardboard to match what I was using. So I got some 1/4" MDF (a little thicker) for more rivers and some 1/8" hardboard to see how that works out for other terrain -- starting with some dirt/mud roads.

The Big Guy

I finished up the painting on the Marauder giant, but can't decide what to do for the base. While I give that a bit of thought, I've started on the next giant -- the Ultraforge giant.

He's the largest giant I've got. Pretty well sculpted, though not as nicely cast as the Marauder or Warploque giants. He required the most clean-up of the four I'm attempting to paint this month, and there are still some visible mold lines/slips. The resin is lightweight, which is a nice change from awkwardly handling the lead Marauder giant while painting.

The big guy is mostly flesh surfaces, so I'm trying to keep that interesting. I put a bit of work into that tonight, but still have more refinement & clean-up. His face still looks a bit like raw meat. (Not that that's entirely a bad thing...) The colors aren't quite coming through in the pics, but I hope they give a good idea where it's going.
